About the Event

In this course we will examine the life of Rudolf Steiner.  Steiner was an Austrian born polymath

who lived in the late 19th and early 20th century.  He published numerous books, gave

thousands of lectures, and was avidly sought after for professional and personal advice by

people from all walks of life.  His revolutionary work in farming, architecture, medicine, history,

philosophy, art and education are continually being rediscovered and proven to be true by

contemporary science.  We will discuss why his work is typically dismissed despite obvious

merits.

As the founder of Waldorf education, we will look at Steiner’s impulse for developing this

method of teaching. We will briefly review how it grew and spread worldwide.  Most importantly

we will discuss what it offers us today as we seek a better practice of the art of teaching.

We will also get acquainted with a simple and fascinating tool that Waldorf teachers employ

when encountering the uniqueness of each child, the tool of temperament.   The 4-fold lens of

temperament is a powerful aid to working with a variety of classroom issues, like learning

differences, discipline and classroom management, engaging storytelling, parent work, balance

and variety in lesson preparation, and how to nurture the overall wellbeing of each student (as

well as yourself).

Teachers will also experience watercolor painting and/or chalk drawing as an expression of the

temperaments.

This introduction to Rudolf Steiner and a way of perceiving the human being will be beneficial to

anyone practicing Waldorf methods.
